Nexus Aggressively Pursues Property Tax
Exemption
Staff Writer
According to recent reports, Nexus remains aggressive in its
stubborn refusal to pay their tax obligation. CEO Jim D'Angelo threatened to
leave the county if they didn't receive a free ride in Onamia. New Executive
Administrator Paul Smith threatened that Nexus would leave the state if they
had to pay for their own lunch. Smith also directed employees and MLA
supporters to pressure the county commissioners, and harass the senior
appraiser at the Minnesota Revenue with letter and phone calls in an effort
to intimidate her into changing her stance that Nexus does not meet the
requirements for property tax exemption in Minnesota. Their latest effort
includes inviting tax assessors to visit Mille Lacs Academy for a tour of
the facilities.
Instead of trying to schmooze and intimidate, perhaps Nexus
should work towards qualifying for property tax relief.
