Nexus CEO Resigns
Mille Lacs News Staff Writer
At the special
meeting of the Onamia City Council this afternoon, Mayor Larry E. Milton
announced that Nexus CEO James D'Angelo has resigned. According to Milton,
the head of Nexus Inc. and Nexus Diversified Community Services will
conclude his tenure with the company at the end of December of this year.

For the past
several years, Jim D'Angelo was in charge of the Nexus corporation, which
operates four juvenile treatment centers; Mille Lacs Academy in Onamia and
the Gerard Academy in Austin, MN, as well as Indian Oaks Academy and Onarga
Academy in Illinois. Recently he was working towards building a new facility
on the Grosslein/Bye 38 acres in Bradbury Township, which was going to be
annexed by the City of Onamia in order to move approximately 94 sex
offenders from the Crosier Monastery where they are currently held.
As for the future
of Nexus in the Onamia community, everything is still up in the air, Milton
indicated. D'Angelo had stated that if Nexus did not receive property tax
exemption, they would indeed leave the area. It appears that whatever the
fate of Nexus, Mr. D'Angelo will soon no longer be in charge of it.

Purchase Agreement
Extended
Mille Lacs News Staff Writer
A crowd of Bradbury Township residents gathered to hear Mayor
Larry Milton announce at the special city council meeting that papers were
in the process of being drawn to extend the purchase agreement on the
Grosslein/Bye property until January 2, 2008. The current purchase agreement
expires on September 15.
Citizens were disappointed with the announcement. After four
months of fighting against having the sex offender facility placed in their
residential neighborhood, people had hoped that, with the property tax
exemption denial, the purchase agreement would be terminated, not extended.
Construction of the new Mille Lacs Academy was to begin in
August, but due to the many pitfalls encountered, plans have been
indefinitely postponed. Milton indicated on prior occasion that if things
don't work out with Nexus, the purchase agreement will become null and void,
the annexation will not proceed, and everything will revert back to the way
it was.
